Possible prostrate trouble

Can someone please offer me a medical reason as to why the following happens when I am feeling unwell? When I am suffering from a throat infection or most
recently Sinusitis I find that despite feeeling I desperately need the loo (number ones!) the flow of my urine is merely a dribble. I did raise this when I last saw my doctor, thinking I may have prostrate trouble, but she said that as it is only when I am feeling under the weather and I am relatively young to be at risk of problems with my prostrate, I shouldn't worry about it. I am 39. My Mrs is suggesting I get a second opinion. Does anyone else out there suffer the same or know a reason why this happens? Thanks

It's not your prostate (no second r by the way) - it is far more likely to be a mild bladder infection, possibly the reason for feeling unwell.

Your Dr is probably right, as you are relatively young to be suffering prostate problems. However, if this continues, check with her again, as it could be the start of BPH (benign prostatic hypertrophy), which usually occurs in men older than you, but can happen in younger blokes. Ask if you can have a blood test done to check for a bladder infection, as Ethel said. I agree with your wife, though - have a chat with a male GP, he might have a better insight as to what could be causing this.
