Strange Dizzy Spell
11 Answers
Last night I had a strange dizzy spell. I suddenly felt like I was going to pass out and could see stars everywhere. I laid down on the sofa for a bit, and as soon as the dizziness passed I got a headache. I still don't feel quite right. I feel quite tired, my eyelids feel quite heavy and I still have a headache. Last night I had gotten out of the bath about 10 monutes before I felt dizzy, and thought this may have caused it, I still feel a bit odd!
Any ideas? I don't want to bother the Dr

Sounds like you have low blood pressure. The act of standing quickly, like when you get out of the bath forces a lot of blood to the muscles in your legs, you then suffered from a lack of oxygen in the brain making you dizzy. If you're worried about having low blood pressure, you should see the doctor as it could be a symptom of an underlying problem.
PS if it's happening a lot, you could be a danger to other road users if an episode happens when you're driving your car. I'd get to the doc's asap for proper investigation. If your blood pressure is desperately low they should be able to prescribe something and / or refer you to a nutritionist to advise you on ways to improve your diet. Fortunately low blood pressure has less trouble attached to it than high.
Dizzyness is just because of the heat of your bath it was too hot so the blood tends to go to other parts of you body and away from you head, making you light headed and dizzy, you need to cool down slowiy and sit lay down with your feet raised.
The continued headache could be just dehydration bought on by your hot bath, you need to drink some more fluids esp. water.

Q. My wife insists on having very hot baths. Ive heard that this can be dangerous but she says I am making a fuss about nothing. What do you think?
A. Hot baths are perfectly safe for most people (assuming they are not hot enough to scald) but there are two areas of possible concern. Firstly, older men and women and teenagers are prone to a condition called postural hypotension - where their blood pressure drops on standing making them feel dizzy or faint . Having a hot bath can make this much worse, and there are many recorded cases of people collapsing and injuring themselves after a long soak. And secondly, there has been some claims recently that pregnant women who enjoy a long hot bath or saunas may be putting their babies health at risk - one study has found a slightly increased risk of spinal cord damage though more research is needed.
Also if you bath was very hot see "heat stoke" which can cause the same symptoms as you mention:
