* feeling tired and sleeping excessively
* easily feeling the cold
* dry and thickened skin
* coarse, thinning hair and eyebrows and brittle nails
* sore muscles, slow movements and weakness
* depression and problems with memory and concentration
* weight gain
* constipation
* fertility problems and increased risk of miscarriage
* heavy, irregular or prolonged menstrual periods
There may also be swelling of the thyroid gland in the neck - a goitre.
See your GP if you are concerned. More common in older people, especially women, and diabetics.

Mr Mountainboo has this condiition and has to take medication everyday. His symptoms include: exsessive tiredness, mild depression (in bowts), problems with his ability to concerntrate and most of all, what seems to affect him constantly is his sinuses, he regularly gets a flemy feeling at the back of his nose and throat which is like the onset of a cold that never goes away. His brother has also recently been diagnosed with underactive thyroid. They detect it through a blood test specifically for the thyroid, you should ask your GP for a blood test. Good luck
Thanks to both of you who replied.
I'm very interested that Mr Mountainboo has sinus probs which is never mentioned in medical pages. I do see a consultant every 6 months about my sinuses.
I got a blood test which showed the bottom end of normal but I just don't FEEL normal. My brother (and grandmother used to) take thyroxine.
I think I'll go back to GP and ask for another test.
Thankyou all,
Tillmouth
