Gastric Flue

I had gastric flu with the vommiting and diarrhea, it took me about a week to get over it completely and then a while to put the weight back on and get my appetite back. i didnt drink a huge amount of fluid therefore i was quite dehydrated.When i went to bulgaria skiing about 2 months later i had the same thing but only for about 24 hours and the symptons werent as bad.is this common?
