he took a look and said just gargle with salty water.
i asked about cough stuff and he said waste of time and dont need same.
i have never heard that cough medicines are no use.
seems funny that millions of bottles are sold weekly.

One of my doctors once said that a cold if left untreated would last about 7 days but if you took these various cough and cold remedies would last a week! So in other words don't bother. He did say that the best thing for a cold was good old steam which I generally use.
I dont think you can beat honey, lemon and hot water alot of cough med has these ingredients in them with a few fancy names to go with it.g.
Have you ever been prescribed a cough medicine? I guess not, so there is your answer - at best, you will get a temporary relieve as the stuff rolls down your throat - if you have an irritated throat. You get the same effect having a drink or sucking a sweet.
Yes - your doc is right - and most GP's will agree with that. I work with dozens of docs so have discussions like this all the time - they all say that cough medicines are a waste of money. That said, you can gain momentary relief from taking a spoonful as it does soothe the throat , but has no lasting affect whatsoever. Cheers Dollie x
