St Johns Wort how does it work?

Hey, Ive just started taking St Johns Wort for depression as I don't really want to go on antidepressants as I didnt like them last time. How does St Johns Wort work?

I do not know how it works, but be careful with ANY other meds or herbal remedies. My friend is a nurse and she has told me it can have sterong interactions with a lot of over the counter and prescription meds.

Do a bit of research and reading-up on it before taking it. Herbs can very potent and have effect on other areas of the body.

Also, there are different types of depression - clinical depression, psychotic depression, bipolar depression. Were you diagnose as having a particular type of depression? Please seek professional advice before taking any medication; you could be doing your body more harm than good.

I used to take St Johns and it didnt do anything for me. They dont advise you to take it at the same time as antidepressants. I have been taking prozac (fluoxetine) for a year and suffered no side effects from it.
