if you read my first question then youll know im having to move into my dads house and taking my zoo with me.
i have a big cage that has some budgies and canaries in and they have lived in my lounge since day one. but when i go to my dads they have to go into like a utility room because of cats. now i have a radio for them and people always walk through this room so wont get lonely, but the room is a bit colder then my home and my partner thinks they will all die because of it. its colder but not that cold. i said if the door is kept closed at night and on very cold days they will be fine, as i said that when we have nice sunny days i would like to put them outside sheltered away from the wind.
does anyone know if going from a hot lounge to a cool room would kill them. any ideas

Hi there, they should be absolutely fine so long as it isn't freezing cold, they are both hardy breeds, I know it's slightly different but I used to breed both budgies and canaries in a large outdoor aviary and in the winter the temperature could drop well below zero, if you are worried could you buy an oil filled radiator to take the chill off when really cold it would also help to use something like this to harden them off, really warm then cooler bit by bit until you switched radiator off altogether, cover the cage at night, this will help too.

It might not kill them but it certainly won't do them any good. Is it not possible to have a thermostatically controlled heater at night for a couple of days at say 20�c. and another few nights at 15�c. and finally a couple of night at a minimum at 10�c. if it gets that cold in that room?

You can easily work it out yourself TIGGERLIT.
To acclimatise them find out the night temp that they are usually in and ideally lower it by 1�c. per day in 3 day stages; 3� every 3 days. Once it is under 15 you can drop it by 3 or so per 2 days.
I doubt that the spare room would get colder than 10�c. at night so lowering it over a few nights is quite acceptable.
