I suffer from Gout and confused that the advice is somewhat mixed, the worst things for me are oranges and tangerines, but the experts say eat plenty of fruit !

The only answer for me are Colchicine, take 2 immediatlely and then 1 every hour (not 2 hours like it says on the prescription) and generally it will ease in 8 hours when you get serious stomach ache etc, but worth the relief of the gout

There was some research recently in the British Medical Journal, which discussed how the fructose content of some fruits and soft drinks may contribute towards developing gout. For instance, 2+ glasses of fruit juice per day has been shown to increase the risk by ~80%, and an orange per day increases the risk by ~65%. I'm not saying avoid fruits, as they obviously have many benefits to many aspects of your health. But if oranges are a problem for you, then maybe substitute other fruits for them. Hope that helps...
By the way, the reference for that research I mentioned was: BMJ 2008;336:309-312 if anyone is interested.
