Have any of the ladies here tried the Mooncup?
If so, how have you found it?
How affective is it, in comparison to regular sanitary protection?
How easy is it to use?

I wish every woman would use them, even if only 'part time' because of the huge benefits to the environment.
They are not expensive - the only way to know if it is for you is to try it, and be prepared to give it a fair trial.

I tried one about 18 months ago. Bit tricky to start with, but now, my god, I would never go back to traditional sanitary wear. Much better than ordinary protection, you never get any leaks, it feels much cleaner, and you NEVER run out!!!! As for ease of use, like I say, tricky at first, and my initial thought was "that is NEVER gonna go in THERE", but now I have the knack. I am SO impressed I have written a testimonial for my friend's shop (she runs a health food and enviro sensitive products shop). And helluva lot cheaper too. Reckon my first one cost me about 16 quid. Just think on how much you save on tampons over a year!!!!
I would like to try one, but my periods are so heavy, that in the first 2-3 days, I have to wear a super plus tampon and a sanitary towel and it still sometimes comes through. I have to change every hour or so. With Mooncup, do you get any leaking, does it have to be perfectly positioned and is it easy to remove without making lots of mess. Also, how do you rinse it in a public place?
I am quite heavy on days 2 and 3, but I have never had a problem. I would suggest you try wearing it at home to start with until you feel confident. Its actually extremely easy to remove, squatting is best. I have never yet made any mess! It forms a seal inside you and so the theory is you should not get any leaks. As for rinsing it, the instructions in mine say that if its not possible to rinse, just reuse, although I have never been in the situation where I haven't been able to rinse. You should boil it before and after use to ensure its sterile too.

I too would like to know although my interest is purely academic as I have had a hysterectomy
bye the way Velvetee I noticed somewhere before you mentioned very heavy menstruation. I don't know how old you are but it could be fibroids. Not to be the prophet of doom, but that is what my problem was and I was very heavy and very frequent. The mirena coil worked like a treat and reclaimed my life for 2 years before needing the H

A mooncup is a rubber cup that you insert to catch the blood during your period

Thanks for that link, Lakitu. You learn something new every day. :o)
Velvetee, I am female. A while ago I emailed the Ed to ask to change my username to something more feminine-sounding (I've only got one email address so I can't just re-register). Ed said she would sort it, but I have heard nothing further.
You're not the only one who thinks I am a man!
Re the mooncup - if I had known about it when I needed {ahem} ladies items, I would have given it a go, even if only to cut down on costs! I can't imagine how I would have got on with it though (lol).
Changing the subject slightly, how are you getting on with your other little problem? (You know the one - think dogs).
