Ear ache when flying

Hi, i get terriffic earache when flying, im ok going up but when landing its like someones sticking a knife in my ears. This lasts for hours after i land, I always end up crying on the plane, ive done all the usual things like swallowing, yawning, and sweets and none work. help. To make it worse i have an internal uk flight before my main flight.

Go to the chemist and get a nasal decongestant spray.....something that contains ephedrine or otrovine. Give your nose a good spray, 20 mins before descent.

My wife suffers this problem as well - she bought some special ear plugs from Boots and she says they are really good.
