To give you some background I had a pain in my lower back with pain going into my leg and foot with numbness and pins & needles in toes/foot. Went to docs who said I had inflammed sacroiliac joint, referred me to physio and prescribed me diclofenic. Saw physio who couldn't find anything wrong there & said it was a pinched nerve & gave me exercises. Pain in legs now worse than back, sometimes feel like leg about to give way or snap when standing or first start walking! Back to docs as ran out of tablets & he's now told me just to take paracetamol on a regular basis! That didn't help before! So I wondered if anyone had used any herbal remedies/tablets that had worked. I'll try anything coz this is dealt getting me down!

The pain could be the result of a slightly bulging disc touching a branch of the sciatic nerve. A lot of these settle of their own accord but just occasionally an op. is required to shave off a tiny bit of the disc to stop the irritation.
Perhaps your GP could refer you to a specialist to have an MRI scan.
Fan though I am of complementary remedies not sure that I can think of anything that will help as it may be a 'structural' problem.
I suffered with sciatica for 8 months and I know how the pain gets you down. I was advised to go to see an osteopath ( a good one needs to be recommended so ask around) and within 1 week of seeing him the pain had gone. I would recommend this seriously as filling your stomach with tablets doesn't help the problem.
You could also try a consultation with a registered chiropractor.
Good Luck
Paracetomol won't touch it!
Ibuprofen might help, but I had to sort out my posture to get it under control. More important to sort the cause than search for painkillers.

I didn't realise until I changed cars how bad the seat was in my old one. You must have good lumbar support for the lower back. Even now I have a lumbar roll to wedge behind my back.

Also a good session of slouching on the sofa in front of the TV can guarantee a dose of sciatica. Posture and correct exercise can work wonders.

Hi buffymad,

I have just recovered from sciatica. Like you my doc prescribed diclofenic and co-codomol...didnt work! I went to my physio who told me to stop taking the co-codomol and I saw him 4 times a week for a hour a time wher he performed acupuncture on me and after 4 weeks of acupuncture the pain has pretty much gone. Give it a go if you can. xx
Arnica with DMSO combines a homeopathic topical cream with DMSO as an adjunct to give fast pain relief from sciatica. Adding DMSO speeds and deepens arnica's topically applied efficacy while adding its own pain and inflammatory relief.
