A friend had work suffers badly in legs from this, not only does it happen in bed at night, but sometimes when she is just walking, she has tried low doses of quinine from her doctor, calcium tablets, and crampex no joy,any abers got any other suggestions, she has been to the doctor who has checked that she is suffering from any blockages in the arteries, but everything was ok!!!!
Hi puddi
Give both your legs a good massage before going to bed using something like deep heat/radian b etc.... carry on doing thid everyday - it should make a difference in time
I use voltarol gel on mine at night, sparingly though to try and reduce any long terms effects of using it a lot.
I find the more I move the better it tends to be but I have arthritis so maybe a bit of that as well. Is she stuck in one position for long periods of time?
i know drinking tonic water for the quinine is recommended. also I believe it is due to a lack of salt - obviously should not overdo it but some people are being so careful with salt that perhaps she could be lacking in it?? I tend to suffer more in the summer after exercise when have been sweating so it does make sense.
Might just be due to extra tight calf muscles (often resulting from wearing high heels) if they hurt when you try to squat whilst keeping your feet flat on the floor - they are too tight and might be helped by exercises to stetch the muscles
Hi, Is this cramp or a strange tightness/numbness with a prickly sensation when you rub or touch it. I have had the sensation i mentioned above for about two years mainly in my left leg. It comes on quite a lot at night and sometimes when i'm walking or just sitting down. Mine last from everything from a couple of minutes to an hour.
I was diagnosed with B12 deficiency a few months ago and my doctor said the painfully numbness i have can be one of the symptoms of the deficiency.
