If you are in any way unsure,or worried, see your GP anyway.

Sounds like you may have an infection. You need to have it checked, as some infections can cause Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, if left untreated and will go on to cause infertility.
If you don't fancy going to your GP, Go to a GUM (Genito Urinary Medicine) clinic, most hospitals have one. They will take some swabs and tell you the results whilst you wait. If there is anything wrong, you will probably be given a course of Antibiotics.

It sounds like a fungal infection, which sounds worse than it actually is!! There are many, many simple causes of these, and very simple cures.
Go to see your GP. If you have a male GP and you're uncomfortable talking about intimate subjects such as this, then simply inform reception at your local surgery that you wish to see a female doctor.

I agree with Velvetee. Some women have a more noticeable smell just before a period starts, but in a healthy person, there shouldn't be an unpleasant one - just a natural, musky odour. As Ethel says, if the discharge is colourless or white, then it's perhaps just part of your normal make-up and nothing to worry about.
A quick check-up at the doctor's or GUM clinic should put your mind at rest, but if you have an infection that's left untreated, it could lead to more serious problems.
