That can be a symptom of tonsillitis, but not a particularly definitive one. A visit to your local GP would be recommended, but you may also find this link of help;
Tonsilittis often follows a cold and can develop into quinsy which is very painful.
Tonsillitis on it's own would not have runny nose etc. If you get runny nose it is a cold.
Sucking sweets might relieve symptoms.
I'm not qualified but have had tonsillitis.
Should have said that the tonsils are either side of the throat but a quinsy usually affects just one.
DON'T go to Doc if it's a cold. It's a virus and anti biotics won't help.
