Mammogram -i'm lucky

As some will know i had to go into hospital this morning -the X-Ray showed a mass the sixze of a walnut on my 'R' breast.I was calm as i knew that there was no point in flapping.

For those who gone through Stage 2 then you will no the 'clamp' you get at the end -that was more than uncomfortable.

I waited an hour and them my Consulltant, to his obvious pleasure and them mine, was able to say that the second lot had come back clear -the 'clamp' had dispersed the tissue mass and I now have a letter saying I am cancer free.Had the result remained the same as the first set he would have been very concerned given the size -but it wasnt and today I am still calm but feel very lucky and my thoughts go out to the ones who didnt get good news -like the woman the same age as me who ran out in hysterics followed by a nurse and her friend.

I beg you all to phone your surgery and demand one -cancer has no boundaries -I never ever want to endure this again.

Oh Drisgirl I am so so pleased for you. What a relief knowing it is now all clear. Thank goodness you had it done in the first place. I hate having it done as it is so painful when I have it done as I have alwas had nodules. But women must go and have it done.!! Your case only proves it doesn't it.?

So glad to hear that. A friend of ours had her results yesterday and was not so fortunate, she has to have a mastectomy but it's not an aggressive cancer, more pre-cancer but a large area and she won't need any other treatment just regular monitoring. She is devastated however. It does bring you up with a jolt, doesn't it?

It doesnt half yoga as i was told initially they were determining if I was in the intial stages.The density was massive -i say walnut size but but you get my drift -I then had to wait but as i said i was lucky.I so feel for your friend.

My heart goes out to the ones who - like your friend -didnt get the result they wanted.I didnt go in positive -I knew they had found something to be re-called within a week but the relief I feel is tangible and the distress for those who havent been so lucky is as tangible.

I dont know why I was the lucky one but on this occasion I was and im not going to waste one second of it.

lia -see the normal mammogram -that was nothing to what i got today but that second one was the difference between me having to have further tests and being abble to run as fast as i coudl out that clinic with only a jersey on.

I say use the NHS -they truly are there to help you -they were magnificent today to everyone and they understood every step of the way the anquish fom me -first mamogram-bas result- to the lady i spoke with -in her late seventies who it would seem as tho she had to have more testes.

Tayside Health Board have pioneered this screening and i uge you all to contact your GP and simply ask for a screening for Breast and Bowel -it should be nationwide.

Hi Drisgirl, really pleased to hear your news, you were optimistic and it paid off. A lady in Health and Fitness had bad news this week and has to have a mastectomy in March but seems to be accepting of it. It's a worrying thing for us women, I'm in my late fifties and get called every 2 years and always go - don't know whether I should go more often though. Anyway, you can breathe easy now.

Great news Dris, I wish I'd done the same as you when I found a pea size lump. I left it because my hubby was very ill at the time and my main concern was him, this was nearly 6 years ago ,since then it has grown to the size of an orange and is inoperable, it also spread to my bones and lungs and recently they found another growth on my scull. I'm having chemo at the moment but only to slow the cancer which I'm very grateful for but if only I'd gone when I found the tiny lump, it's too late now and I don't want peope to feel sorry for me because it's my own fault for not doing something about it earlier but I hope my situation might help others!

Gelda my heart goes out to you. I bet you are not the first or last who have put others before yourself, its just so awful the price you have had to pay. But I know you are still in there fighting, keep going girl we are all behind you.

Dris, I am really pleased for you. I also had to go back for further tests. They did a needle biopsy and it came back ok.

Ladies, please please have the mammogram when offered it. It can save lives. Even if you have to go for further tests it doesn't automatically mean the worst. IF you do have to have furher treatment, the sooner the better.
The service the NHS offer is wonderful and they will support you

What can I say to all the good wishes I have received -just that all the people who are now being proactive -good on ya -I was so calm I was so prepared for the worst especially after seeing the initial scan but I went in myself for the news -its the not knowing.

BTW -pips they recommend every 3yrs after 50- unless you feel something -which I didnt -thats what worried me when I had to go into Hospital.

My right breats has always been tender -it isnt now although I know I have been through something but its not the same sensation -the lump must have been pressing on a nerve.So even if its tender got to your GP -my lump was deep seated and it wouldnt ever normally have been found -so any changes at all just go !!!

Finally -Gelda -I know you dont want a fuss but you are a very special brave lady -especially as you are speaking out.I salute you and I do hope that ladies take heed ((((( )))) -keep being the voice and perhaps others wont find themselves in the same sad situation.Take Care xxxx
