A diuretic. Don't have much problem with tea, but coffee goes in one end and straight out the other.

Yes, it is a diuretic, though a mild one (tea and coffee do count as part of the however much liquid you are supposed to drink each day). However there is caffeine in tea as well. In tea it's more dilute, so on a cup for cup basis, there is more caffeine in coffee than in tea.
So are cigarettes......
