FAO Sqad. Help!
5 Answers
Hi Sqad. I had a nose-bleed last night, was reading in bed till 12.30 when all of a suddenly I had a nose-bleed just from1 nostril. Never, ever, having had one before it was rather alarming. I knew one was supposed to lean the head forward and pinch the nostrils for a few minutes. I did this for about 10 minutes, and it appeared to have stopped. I waited about 15 minutes hoping to be able to lie down and sleep, when it started again. Repeated the procedure, and again it appeared to have stopped. Ten minutes later it did it again, again it stopped and I waited a long time to see if it started again. It didn't. But by then it was nearly 3-o-clock (I didn't want the blood to get all over the bed if I had laid down earlier). I wonder what caused it. Do you think it is likely to happen again. I'm so tired with lack of sleep, and worrying about what a mess it would be if it happened when I was outdoors. Any comments would be appreciated. Schutz.

If it bleeds again:
1) Do what you have expertly described.
2) See GP re. appt with ENT surgeon.OR
3) Go to Casualty and hope that an ENT Dr is on.
Simple proceedure of cautery, which can be done by a junior Dr.
Not to worry Schutz.
