Hi

I am over 25 and have never had a smear test. I know it sounds stupid, but I have always been too scared to go so didn't take the opportunity.

I really regret this now. Is there any way I can organise a test or do I have to wait until I am called agan?

Thanks

Ring your doctor and book one straight away - they do not hurt - bit awkward thats all and the sense of relief when you get the all clear is great. I have to have one now every year as I had abnormal cells which could have led to something more serious had I not had treatment but that is a rariety

Hi Alison

Do make sure you get an appt - your nurse at your GP's practice will do smears. Nothing to worry about and like the others say - it's a weight off your mind. It is uncomfortable but you just have to remember that the nurse / GP has done many before so you're not the only one!

hi alison.when i had my first smear i have to admitting i was pooing myself to put it politely as i had heard so many horror stories of it being painful and feeling like you are being stretched wide open.i will admit my first 1 was very very slightly stingy but i think that was down to nerves and it was all over in 20 seconds and stung for about 5 seconds if that.when you go to your appointment tell the nurse that you are nervous and she will talk you through it and answer your questions.all the smears i have had since havent hurt at all just feel a bit uncomfy with a bit of prodding but not painful.if you do get abnormal results dont worry as i had abnormal smears from 2004 and i had treatment and i am still here.good luckxx
