Chubby Checker update

My jack russell (TWIGS) who sadly lost 6 pups and was left with only one is doing super now. Shes enjoying a couple of short walks per day, I put a hot water bottle in with pup while we are out.She is looking really well and isnt over producing milk, to look at her you wouldnt know shes lactating. Pup is living up to his name he really is a chubby checker his belly is permanently full and he has Nora Batty style little legs his eyes have started to open today, my only worry is he is growing too fast with Mums undivided attention. Have you ever had a single puppy litter ? Will he need more socialisation as he will not experience having littermates ? I want to give him the best start in life before he goes to his new home , I read somewhere that a singleton is best kept with Mum until 10 weeks old. Any views appreciated . x

Yes but Mum rejected them LOL My other bitch has taken them over.

I think he would be better to go sooner rather than later, as being a singleton he will rely on mum far more than if he had brothers and sisters to play with and learn from. He won't grow too fast, he will only get what he needs from mum. Socialising is very important, start taking him everywhere you can even if you have to carry him. Get him used to the car, the lead and going out to wee, all of which will help him in his new life. If you know where he is going get the new owners to visit and get used to him, get them to bring a piece of clothing of theirs for him to sleep on.

If he is left too long with mum, he will rely on her and it will be harder for him to learn to do things for himself.
