Your advice please Mr Sqad.
If you had a 24 year old daughter with a recurrent rectal prolapse (mainly mucosal, as far as I know) - you would certainly advise her to be examined and/or investigated wouldn't you?
Even with a long history of IBS and alternate constipation / diarrhoea?
Even though (or especially as) she has a fear of it being bowel cancer which is extremely unlikely?
thanks, Trina.

salla...rectal prolapse in a24yr old.....unusual.

Has she had a poor obstetric history....forceps for example?

This needs investigating by a rectal surgeon.
Question Author
No obstetric history at all.
Sexually active since mid-15.
Long history of IBS like I said.

If it's relevant - she did have rectal prolapse as a small baby because of straining. Also an umbilical hernia, but I don't supose that's relevant.
OK salla, then the cause is clearly her IBS.

Reassure her, no malignancy, but she might need trans -abdominal repair.
Question Author
I've reassured her, but have tried to not give too much reassurance which makes her complacent or unlikely to seek an examination.

A 24 year old that's never had a baby or a smear.... you know how 'funny' they are about letting a doctor look at their bits!! She has consulted on the IBS, but has not mentioned the prolapse - she only mentioned that to me recently cos it's becoming more frequent. As far as I know she has never had an internal exam p.r.

I'll nag her, as a good mummy should.
thanks x

salla...shouldn't push it too much....the prolapse obviously is not causing her too many problems.
Question Author
"shouldn't push it too much" - is that the advice you think I should give her?!!!

Sorry - it's a semi-serious subject, so shouldn't laugh.

I think it is causing her more problems as the years go on. I won't push - just cajole. I'm good at cajoling (so Plaid Cymri tells me). :-)
