If you GP doesnt think its a health issue maybe you can ask to see the practise nurse for diet advice.

of course agree with samuelcat - may take longer but the best thing is eat less move more. You do say you are trying this but sometimes we dont realise we could be trying harder. For example I bought one of those circle things that measures spaghetti - appears the protion size i was eating could easily have fed more that 2 people!! Recently bought the individual bags of uncle bens boil in bag rice - another thing I was clearly having too much of. Keep a diary of food and exercise and each week see where you could perhaps cut back on food a bit and increase exercise. Good luck - if you have been to your doc there should be no health reasons stopping you from losing weight just some changes required.
ps... my mum was diagnosed diabetic not too long ago and changed her diet to control things rather than medication. Would always have classed my parents as healthy eaters although mum was a bit over weight - the weight fell off!! Main thing was portion control - also she would have a supper of an evening, something like a wholemeal scone or something - something she felt was healthy enough. Now makes a practically no calorie soup which if feels a bit hungry takes that to get rid of the pangs - often it is just all in the mind though anyway!

personally i can recommend Weight Watchers - i have just lost 20lbs - but very very slowly, and that has suited me fine, as i dont feel like i am dieting.... I would like to lose some more but am in no hurry as this way it is less likely to go straight back on again.
Plus my WW group is full of good women and men who enjoy a laugh :-)
Give it a try - its only the weight you have to lose!

Resistance training is just as important as cardio, so do some weights or use your own bodyweight to do things like press ups, bench dips, squats and lunges. Having more lean muscle, means you will use more fat as fuel and your metabolic rate will be increased.
Also bear in mind, your body will now be used to cycling as you do it all the time, so it will have little impact on weight loss. Try different things like brisk walking, walking up flights of steps (or use a bench or exercise step) or even trampolining.
Diet wise, ensure you are eating enough, if you are very active and don't eat enough, your metabolism will slow down and you won't really lose anything.
