smear tests
8 Answers
i had my smear test earlier and i bled quite alot during despite having a period 2 weeks ago. The nurse told me that if i dont stop bleeding by tonight then im to call the surgery and ask to see a doctor immedietly, why is this? Also i told her that after having my coil fitted after having my daughter 16 months ago, i had alot of unexplained heavy irregular bleeding for about 10 months following that but has since has gone into the reverse effect and now when i am due on i mainly have spotting and ive been late on 2 periods. She seemed quite concerned, but didnt explain why. Can anyone shed a light on this, i dont know if i should be worried or not.

It is quite common to bleed after a smear test up to a week I would suggest.
My advice, wear a pad and if it shows no sign of settling by tomorrow night then make an appointment to see you GP on Friday morning. If it starts to soak through your pad then of course see him tomorrow.
I have no idea what the nurse has in mind.

thats what i couldnt understand! i wouldnt dream of calling a out of hours surgery over some bleeding, if i was in extreme pain as well, then i wouldnt hesitate of course, but im not. there ws quite alot of blood on the wand that they scrape the cells off with, would that give a abnormal test result?
