Oh, look ... most people in the gym are too obsessed with sneakily watching themselves in the mirror to take any notice of you.
You could have a heart attack and die, and everyone would just assume you'd stopped for a rest.
So get in there ... and enjoy it !!!!!

Don't be silly, it'll be fine. I absolutely hate the gym but I like how I look and feel when I go and everyone else can get to *******... I work out with complete meat heads on the weights and my cardio stuff leaves me heffing like a pig while other girls can touch up their mascara and run a marathan... I could care less but it would involve effort. Do it for you and laugh at how ridiculous you look, that's what I do.
Also, if you can afford it, get a personal trainer to go over your goals and what you want to achieve and make out an excerise plan for you so that you know what you're doing and are focused on that rather than what is around you.

Right ! picture this... A less than 5 foot tall woman weighing 16 stone... You would all think she gets stared at and ridiculed at the gym. Well this woman is me and I don't get stared at. People at the gym think and say that I'm doing the right thing, they help more than anything. Just go for it girl - you'll end up enjoying it.
you could try classes, then your in a room with mostly if not completely filled with women who feel the same!
Will take a couple of visits to a class to get used to the moves, but it wont take long. Also Everyone messes up sometimes, i had two left feet when i started, very embarasing, but just laughed it off! Now i can keep up much bettter, but still mess up soon!
Working in the class enviroment also holds your attention for longer, and makes you keep working hard!
But everyone else is right about people around you, they may have a quick look, but they're most likely too busy checking themselves out. Dont worry about it!
good luck!
