Today we learned that the Animal Health Trust have finally (after ten years of research) found the mutation for the gene that causes Primary Lens Luxation in several breeds. This is a very painful eye condition that causes loss of sight not only in pedigree breeds, but in Jack Russells too, and there will now be a DNA test for it. More details here:

All we need to do now is to persuade puppy buyers not to buy unless the parents are DNA tested which will not be such a problem in the pedigree breeds, but we all know how many Jack Russells are bred and sold at the farm or garden gate, or via the local free ads. I am now cracking open the champagne, so can't guarantee to answer anything sensibly tonight!
