It can do all sorts of things to your body coming off while it adjusts back.

I came off to give my body a break after a relationship ended and it took nearly 12 months for my periods to come back and had lots of PMT symptoms during that time.

Apparantly it can take up to 18 months for your cycle to return to normal afterwards. I've known a fair few people have problems coming off it.
