Tens machine for osteoarthritis
9 Answers
My dad is in his 70s and has problems with his knees for sometime but recently confirmed as osteoarthritis. This is not keeping him in, he is still playing golf as he says he can 'bare the pain'. He does not like to bother his doctor but had to go this week as one of his knees swole up. He saw a different doctor who has told him the diclofenic pills he had been given before is best for him and advised him for example just to take one on golf days or when knee really bothering him. He is a bit stubborn, his mum died in her 90s and at that stage was only taking an asprin a day and its like he is ashamed to be having to take medication. I was wondering would a tens machine perhaps help him? many thanks

Does he takes any supplements? A combination of glucosomine and celadrin really helps with mine and I take the diclofenic only if it gets really bad. Just a thougt, you can get it in a cream (Volterol P) which he might find more acceptable.
if your father haven't taken diclofenic before then i would suggest he tries them on a day he will be resting as they have a lot of side effect

thanks all for your response. Someone had mentioned Glucosomine before but when he went to Holland and Barrett the assistant said not to be taken cause he was diabetic and then when he mentioned to the doc he said 'waste of time'. Have heard it worked for some people that wish the doctor would have advised him whether he could or could not try it rather than deciding it was a waste of time! He says it has been a bit better this weekend and the doc gave him some anti acid tabs to take along with the diclofenic. I also got him some info off the arthritis website and have pushed him a bit more to get swimming and they have recommended him using exercise bike to strengthen.
