Ovarian Cancer

Hmm ok I went to the Docs today because for the past 2 weeks, I felt pressure & slight pain internally when I sit down but the last couple of days I felt it when walking, twisting so decided I had better get it checked out. It is now however starting to get better and I feel I probably won't feel anything tomorrow.
I've also had back pain on and off.
My Grandmother died of Ovarian cancer and my Auntie (her daughter) is battling breast cancer for the second time in 3 years.

I am being sent for an ultrasound which should be in the next couple of weeks. The Doctor said at my age (31) it isn't likely to be Ovarian cancer but it can't be ruled out and best to get it checked out. It was tender when she pressed on my abdomen.

Ok stupidly I have looked it up online (I know, I know..) and am now thinking that I have this!! The back pain has been going on for months but I have always had a back problem from a teen but this pain is different. I have had the internal pain before and read somewhere about pain when ovulating so assumed it was that as it would literally last a day or 2 then not happen every month.

Would the pain internally be there all the time if it was OC? or would it come and go? Grrr just want to hear from others and what they think?? I think I've wound myself up worrying and shouldn't have looked online!!

I think when I had a slightly abnormal result on a smear test earlier this year I too looked it up online and found I had all the symptons for cervical cancer. I got the all clear when they did another test six months later.

I know it's hardest thing in the world but you have to sit this one out my love.... If someone comes on and says it's constant you'll worry, if they say it comes and goes you'll worry, if they say they felt no pain at all but stll got it, guess what, you'll worry..... I have cysts, I get pain in that region a lot, try and calm down lady. Nothing anyone will say will help so it's best to try and keep busy... Again, I know it's easier said than done.

Thanx China, I know your right, I'm not a very paitient person and want to know now so it can be sorted!! Maybe I'll feel better after a nights sleep. I think I've tried not to think about it since getting in from the Doc's but have now sat down and stupidly looked online and just got overwhelmed.

You're going to be on a' two week, get the results in urgently' turn around time and they're pretty bang on with those. I do know how you feel in this instamce but you gotta just crack on with your day. The waiting around is a pain I know but it's not so bad bad, I had to wait 8 weeks for mine and I'm really not a patient person!! Chin up :c)

It is probably just something like ovarian cysts,they are quite common,i've had them and so have my 3 sisters. One of my sisters had problems where her cysts burst and she had to have an oophorectomy (removal of ovary),but that is a rare complication.

There a couple of genes called BRAC1and BRAC2 which cause a high risk of Breast, Ovarian and Bowel cancer.

These can be tested for if you have a high prevalence of these cancers in your familly you might want to ask your doctor if you can have the test.

My wife has a very high prevalence of these in her familly - mother died of Ovarian, at least 2 cousins with Breast cancer and it turned out that she had one of these genes.

Although your doctor's probably right about your age the problem with ovarian cancer is that it's often diagnosed late and so going to the quack was smart - especially with a familly history

If I were you I would think about asking for the test to see if you have one of these genes.

I don't know if you have any Jewish connections but they are particularly common there

never never never never NEVER look up your symptoms on the net! it's easy to think you have almost anything. sit tight, have your tests and hopefully you'll get better results than your self-diagnosis.

Malignant Disease...............1.000 to1 for malignancy.........mu odds based on experience.

This is very probably not but you've done exactly the right thing in going to the doctor and shes doing the right thing in getting it checked out. - If only more people acted as quickly as you

Glad you went straight to docs. Only they can diagnose it, try not to look things up. I know how worried you may be, but could be all sorts of things causing you this pain. Hope everything turns out fine have my fingers crossed for you wingy xx

Jake....I know that this is not your intention, but those statistics may well frighten Wingnut unnecessarily.

That 15% relates to the incidence of an Ovarian lump being malignant and she may well interpret your 15% as the chances of her symptoms being malignant, which is NOT the case.

I know that you didn't intend this.

I have in the past decided I have every disease under the sun when I look online. I don't do it anymore!!! I know how you feel Wingnut - I have wound myself up on more than one occasion. I am still about with aches and pains but relatively healthy.

The chances are that you will be just fine. xx

Other people may read the thread and think there's a thousand to one chance of having a problem and not go and seek help.

This is one of those conditions that is really important to get checked early - always better safe than sorry

I didn't say that......I said that there is a i.000 to 1 chance of it being "malignant".....something quite different to what you accused me of saying.

May sound stupid, but did your GP test you for a urine infection? Some types can show as intermittent discomfort and pressure in the front, and back pain if kidneys are involved, without the other symptoms of cystitis eg pain when peeing.
The ovarian pain when ovulating I found to be a very localised twinge at the front.
