Ab Registration Fee?

Should a small fee be applicable when opening an Ab account? Perhaps a one-off fee of £1.50 which could be donated to charity.
And/Or
Mandatory proof of Id when you join., ie. Passport or Driving Licence No. ?
I know some will find this a little far-fetched, but it would certainly deter people from having multiple identities on this site, thus alleviating the abuse.
Feel free to post your own suggestions as to how to combat this proliferation of multi-identity creation.
Re-introduction of green names would also help to spot name-cloning, I think.

Not a bad idea.
I think the "one i.d. per IP" idea would be sensible.
The only objection raised to this is that it prejudices people who have to share a PC ... say in a library or internet cafe.
But seriously ... how many ABers are spending money in internet cafes to use AB? And how many of them are followed on to the same computer, in the same internet cafe, by another ABer.
I'd be willing to bet that that had never, ever happened.
Okay ... maybe 2 i.d.s ... in case we ever need our back-up i.d.s when we are in the dungeon (mine is DungeonJayne).
Or 3 ... because I still live in hope of one day becoming "Seagull"

I like the idea but like zac say's i don't think it would work ,who is going to pay for a crossword answer when they haven't been on the site before and go through security checks ,i have said before i wouldn't mind having a wee green thing next to my name with possibly something to say how long we have been members for .
So some would be in favour of paying a fee, some would not. I would definitely be in favour of paying a fee - especially if at least some of it went to charity. If I consider all the entertainment I've had on this site in the last 11 months, I wouldn't haggle over £1.50. And you wouldn't really need to give bank details, you could pay by card, or paypal, surely?
What about giving document details. Surely the people who create multiple usernames on this site only actually have one driving licence and passport?

A number of other sites have a "donate" button, which allows those who value the service to give something towards the costs, without it being compulsory, then the crossword addict who gets their answer can express their appreciation. However, AB looks as if it is funded in the main by advertising, so donations might be a side issue!
