1) Innocent murmurs
2) Abnormal murmurs.
Innocent murmurs are probably the most commonest and are due to the haemodynamics of the blood passing through the heart.....no abnormalities. no disabilities and no treatment needed other than reassurances.
Abnormal murmurs MAY indicate abnormalities of the heart valves or the blood vessels leading to or from the heart and the treatment depends upon which valve or blood vessel is affected. The management of these conditions vary from no treatment at all, to drug therapy and maybe to cardiac surgery.
That is it in a nutshell.
