Rats with pneumonia
5 Answers
Hi everyone.
I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice please. I have a 9 month white rat called Freddie who has pneumonia.
I took him to my vet and he gave him an injection of antibiotic and prescribed Baytril that you mix with a litre of water.
The reason i am on here is because he doesn't seem any better. Is there anything else you can get for pneumonia as i lost my other 2 rats Fred and George to the same thing. Fred was 16 months old and George was 2 and a half.
No-one in the house smokes either.
If anyone has had a similar problem or has any information, would you please give me some advice.
Thanks all x

Thanx Tambourine i will definately try the heat lamp. I do have them in front of a radiator anyway.
I am not a rat minder, society, i am a rat lover lol. Despite what people think rats make lovely pets. They are very intelligent creatures and also very affectionate. They are nothing at all like wild rats :0). Also a lot easier than looking after a snake.
Thanx for your answers :0)

I agree - I've never owned a rat but my best friend had one and she was a lovely inquisitive wee thing (the rat, not my friend) who was very easily trained. My pal used to take her shopping on her shoulder, and everyone loved to see her. Could something in their bedding or sawdust be irritating their lungs maybe?
