they lighten your purse.....sure weight loss
One of the reasons I haven't joined is because of the weekly fee, not that I'm mean or anything, but it really is a moneymaking industry. It is only a matter of sensible eating if you have the will to do it on your own.

237 i had a expereince with a slimming chain many years ago,i had only say 7lbs to lose and a friend had loads more to lose we both hadnt been in a while,she received a letter saying she had been missed and me no letter,we both realised they only were interested in her because it meant they would lose out if she didnt come back!
Maybe they wern`t interested in you because you only had 7 lbs to lose. I`ve always had a small frame but I know when I`m putting on a few pounds. I went to WW and they turned me away because they said I wasn`t big enough! 7 lbs would probably be within their criterior of not being a serious weight issue but a couple of stone might be worth doing something about hence them contacting your friend. Sorry, but all business are out to make money (including the supermarkets who sell you low fat meals to lose weight) but in my opinion WW didn`t try to brainwash me into anything. It`s there if you want it, if you don`t then don`t bother

I started out with say a stone and a half to lose
Of course its a money making industry, every business is. Gym's /Dance classes etc are only in it for the money, not for the individual. If you think about it, it's easy enough to go for a 'free' jog or walk, or do exercise in your own home. But people go to these places for the social side, or encouragement or the 'push' they need as they can't do it themselves at home. Its the same for diet classes, some need the encouragement others don't and are quite happy to do it themselves. Every diet class, gym, dance class or other is 'worth their weight' if it does the job it's intended to do and the participating person is happy to go.
Some people need the routine and weekly meetings to stop them 'cheating'. I cheat at patience.
Also, some people gain weight because they don't understand nutrition. These clubs give good information regarding nutrition so could be worthwhile for that reason.
