It is unusual for a psychotherapist in a case like this , to have diagnosed your symptoms and report that you have PTSD .
What usually happens is that a GP Specialising in medico legal claims or a Consultant Orthopod or a Consultant in A & E , examines the claimant and reports on , and gives a prognosis with respect to the physical injuries sustained .
If you advise him / her that you are experiencing psychological symptoms , which are not the usual normal expected reactions to the event - eg anxiety , apprehension etc ; but of a more serious nature eg nightmares etc - then he/she would refer you to a Consultant psychologist / psychiatrist .
The psychiatrist / psychologist would then , after a consultation with you , compile a report , which would advise if in fact your symptoms fell within / outside the definition of PTSD ; and would recommend what , if any treatment is warranted .
If PTSD was diagnosed then a psychotherapist would provide you with the necessary treatment recommended .
In cases where PTSD is diagnosed by the aforementioned experts and depending on the prognosis - then you would normally be expected to have a higher award in terms of payment made to you - as opposed to an allegation only , of psychological symptoms
Without knowing the details of your case it is difficult to estimate how much extra you would be expected to receive .
You should also bear in mind that the amount that you receive will also depend on how good the person acting on your behalf is in pursuing / negotiating with the compensator .
At the end of the day , you could have shed loads of evidence - but if those acting on you behalf aren't robust in pursuing your claim, then you could end up with less than your case warrants .
Defendants will always attempt to get rid of a case , as cheaply as possible
