Hi my partner (male 63 ) has hade cancer (twice Bowel and Liver ) he has been told that he has got low Testosterone levels and is suffering like some of us girls with the menopouse, but due to having cancer he is unable to have HRT, may I add he is also insulin dependant Diabetic my questions is " is there any natural remedies out there that would help him with his hot flushes and all the othre symptoms, cheers

I assume that he has his testosterone levels checked and they have been reported as low.
Is there such a thing as the male menopause? ........ controversial

If we accept the above two sentences as fact, then why is having bowel cancer and Liver cancer a contraindication for HRT?........in my opinion it isn't..

yes he has had it confirmed that his levels are low and apparently the treatment for the condition has a risk of causing cancer just the same as a female runs a higher risk of breast cancer if using hrt. The doctors says he needs testosterone but will not prescribe it for the above reason

Sorry sqad but there is evidence. I researched it myself after being on HRT for 10 years and this being flagged up by my GP - the research showed a slightly increased risk of breast cancer if women stayed on HRT long-term. This is one article http://www.medicalnew...m/articles/138086.php

I wonder if the GP is taking enough account of the psychological impact of not treating your husband, natural remedies tend to use plants extracts that mimic the effects of hormones etc like the use of phyto oestrogens for the female menopause and can have the same risks so if you want to use them consider them in the same way you would consider any other drug.. I think you should ask for a referral back to your oncologist or to a hormone specialist, I think if there are risks then your husband should be the one to decide if it is worth it.

Boxtops we are talking about 2 different things.
HRT in females involve giving oestrogens and/or progesterone and I agree with that article that there is a slight increase in breast cancer incidence.
Here we are not dealing with progesterone or oestrogen administration, we are dealing with the administration of testosterone. Here the association is prostate cancer and testosterone administration.......a very, very low incidence.
Also bowel malignancies and liver secondaries are not hormone dependant.

Oestrogen/progesterone HRT is completely different to testosterone HRT.

My opinion remains....for another reason as well.
