Loss of taste and smell

Iv had sinus surgery 3 months ago to clear sinuses and remove nasel polpys. Got the all clear but recently had blocked nose and some loss of smell and taste, more in the morning. My GP said it could be hayfever and has given me antihistpmines and nasel spray which has slightly helped. Found out that drinking doesnt help. Why is that? Does Alchol inflame the nostrols? Taste and smell usually return by midday, s this the problem? Drnking to much?

1st thought .....have the polyps recurred? What sort of nasal surgery? FESS?

2nd thought...yes it could be Hay fever and let's hope that your GP's treatment works.

3rd thought. Alcohol is a vasodilator, it opens up the blood vessels of the face (red face) and of the inside of the nose (blocked nose)

4th thought......if the antihistamines don't work, then reduce your alcohol intake.

Yes it was FESS. I think that drinking i not helping. Not going to drink much for the next two weeks to see what happens. Ifno improvement i shall go back to GP and ask to go back to ENT again. The thing i cant understand is why am i ok at bedtime yet in the morning my nose is blocked again? Its makingme a little parionoid testing my smell all the time

Why not take the antihistamine tablets at night.
Have you had allergy tests?
You could be allergic to House Dust Mite as well as Grass Pollen.

Jessy, when you had polyps did you have an awful smell up your nose, as ive just had a sinus x-ray to see whats going on up my nose as im getting this awful burning skin smell up mine but they cant see polyps by looking up the nose. x
