High blood pressure.

My GP has just upped my medication from 4mg to 8mg of perindopril. My last blood
pressure reading was 169/114 which I gather is quite high. I then have to go for a
blood test in about 14 days time.Anyone got any helpful hints in what I an do to bring
it down.Also my husband has been very ill, would the stress of worry affect my blood
pressure?

Stress can increase blood pressure.
A diet high in salt, smoking and a lack of exercise can also cause high blood pressure.

Yes, but not to the tune of 170/114.

Mollykins is correct, but the key to your problem is going to be a lifetime of drugs to lower your BP and possibly diuretics (drugs to eliminate unwanted fluid)
My blood pressure goes up alarmingly when I am stressed and worried cupid. (i.e. when I have my blood pressure checks!) Acute anxiety can raise your blood pressure but I am not sure whether underlying long term low level stress can increase it. I don't think it will serve any purpose to try and bring your blood pressure down before your blood tests. Surely, it would be more sensible to get accurate blood tests so that your GP has a better picture of what might be going on.

I am sure you must already know what Milly has answered. That is just sensible advice for avoiding problems but not a quick fix for lowering blood pressure. I don't know of any quick fixes accept, of course, prescribed medication.
I take perindopril AND a diuretic by the way, as Sqad has just indicated.
My quick fix, is white fish, onions, toms and a bit of Balsamic vinegar and baked in foil, probably does no good but mine always comes down.
I take coaprovel (sqad will know of it) which is apparently a diuretic, but I don't seem to pee a lot!
I fancy that Neti!! Sounds my sort of meal. We eat loads of fish tomatoes, onions and garlic, but It didn't keep my blood pressure down though!! ;o)
Nor me Neti. No affect on wee whatsoever!!

I have tried it and so you can.Keep regular daily watch on your blood pressure.Lower your sodium intake in your diet.Use low or no sodium bread ,yougurt and what you eat check how much is sodium content in it.Try 1 or 2 % maximum.Eat lettuce,cucumber fresh vegetable and plenty of fruit .Do not eat processed one and tin food that contains high level of Sodium even fast food has also plenty of it.Minimise your carbohydrate intake like bread or rice things.Every day do light aerobic exercise for one hour.Increase fibrous intake in your diet.Do not eat beef or meat having high cholestrol can eat fish baked.Avoid fried or spicy food.
You will see your blood pressure comes down remarkably and you do not need to take medicine but Doctor will advice you that your blood pressure is falling so stop medicines.It needs persistence and consistence so you will see results in a week.Good luck and have healthy life.
For 7 years I was on 2mg of Perindopril plus 2.5 mg Bendrofluemethazide. Every time my reading was perfect. I had to change GP on moving house and my BP started creeping up. My new GP upped the Perindopril to 4 mg, then later 8 mg. Last year my diabetic check-up showed that my kidney function was not 100%, so the water tablets were stopped. I have never felt right since. My previous GP used an old-fashioned sphygmomanometer, inflated with a bulb. I don't trust these new electronic jobs, no matter how much they protest that they are regularly calibrated.
