I`ve read it helps us produce the sounds needed for speech but if we didn`t have one wouldn`t we just have learned to communicate using different sounds? I`ve also read that it moves when we swallow to stop food going up the back of the nasal passages. So which is correct?
The uvula does not deal off the channels that stop food or liquid going to other areas than that for which they are intended.
It is not necessary - i have had mine removed, together with my tonsils and half my soft palate, as a snoring treatment. It hurt like hell, and it didn't work!
