It's for a middle/older aged mans funeral I have seen these?

It's called a mixed sheaf? So do these need to be put in water, if the poor lady has tons of flowers turn up would a basket be better so she doesen't have to find yet another vase? Can the flowers just sit in the basket and not need much attention?

Thanks in advance

Are you wanting to send flowers to the funeral or a bouquet of flowers as a gesture of condolence to the family?

If it's the former then flowers are generally delivered to the funeral director and the family need not worry about them going into water. If it's the latter then a funeral sheaf isn't really appropriate.

thanks you for you answer, I hve now been told it is for the home not the funeral as we don't know the date so the sheaf is not suitable.

As it is the home do you agree with my vase issue? What baout these from interflora

wanted to spend £50 though but theres nothing really that price
i actually like the rose planter, something to live on after the funeral.
Those arrangements are much more like it although the pink lily and rose one looks rather cheerful for a sympathy arrangement IMHO!

You don't have to go down the interflors route, you could google a florist local to the family and ask them to make something and deliver it. It will be cheaper than going to Interflora and you can specify any particular flowers you like, you can use the Interflora website as a guide.

Thats what I thought but is it too cheap? I am not a flower person purley because they die, so these make sense to me thaat they live on - surely a good representation at a death?
Is there any charity that you could also donate to in memory perhaps?

I am a very literal person I like to see what I am buying down to the finest detail I don't like leaving it to other people, esp as I don't know the wife I won't be able to find out what turns up so would like it to be 'standard' buy now option. Thanks though eccles but Im have never been an 'order over the phone person'

What do you think of the roses eccles too cheap looking?
Rose planter is lovely and hassle free which will be important at this time.

No, it's not too cheap. At times like this 'it's the thought that counts' really does ring true.
I'd go (if possible) to a local florist and ask what they can offer you. You may find they have some already done which are awaiting delivery/collection that they can show you.
In my experience those small roses don't last long & don't always take to being planted outside later on.
Question Author
should I get the roses in the pot (to live on beyond the funeral) but then either the 'thinking of you vase' or the 'exquisite arrengement' as a short term arrangement so we don't look cheap totaling £62.97
Question Author
unfortunately we don't live near enough to go to a local florist and them deliver to them as well.

well we are accountants sending them to a client so we can't look tight you know, so the roses don't last long we think but they take the hassel out the 'putting in water' what to you think the roses look best with?
depends how close you are to them and how many other arrangements you think theyll receive, they may be inundated for a few days and then have nothing after that if you know what i mean.

Are peace lily and white orchids not the suitable thing to send are they not sympathy related? Thanks for all the help

My orchids are blooming at present. If you bought a nice pot to house 3-4 orchid plants they would bloom this time every year as a memorial. Or a camelia to plant out (mine are blooming now).
I definitely wouldn't send two items, but understand you not wanting to look 'cheap' now.

How about this item (if the link doesn't work it is the Extra large scented lily bouquet in a vase £44.99) http://www.interflora...2472264;category_id=4
Blimey £65.....Marks do them for £9.99 ea
The last orchid basket is stunning, my only reservation would be that many associate orchids with weddings.
Cut flowers may last a week whereas an orchid plant lasts forever, provided its neglected :)
Question Author
tam you saying the last basket there of orchids is over priced?

eccles says possible wedding association and whats the likely hood of them blooming each year? It would be a lovely annual memorial....difficult choice

how easy are orchids to look after?
