Help me find my half brother or sister

My mother has recently died. Over the last few years she mentioned to us that we have a half sibling. My dad had this baby with someone in 1970, he was paying maintenance to them until 1988. I know little information other than where the lady worked when they were courting, the area, the public house where she once worked, my fathers military number and barracks and the month and year the maintenance stopped.

Is there anyway I can trace them? By way of my dad name, military number....anything?

Get in touch with the local paper for the area where your dad was stationed and put an article in there asking if anyone knew your father whilst he was stationed there to contact you.. they may also well know the name of the mother etc..

I used a probate genealogist to find my family - she had all the info in 24 hours and I only had the name and dob of my father to give her. I know that it's not strictly what probate genealogists do but they would be a step in the right direction. All ideas are good but in my experience the local paper didn't work.

I used to be with Genes Reunited, and through them I found my wife's half-sister. She was the daughter of my wife's father from his first marriage. If you don't mind paying the necessary fee, you could sign up to Genes Reunited or a similar website. It might cut out a lot of guesswork and false trails.
