Why do preggie girls (usually the very young ones) now expose their bumps for the world to see.

I think it's great to be proud to be expecting, but I personally don't want to look at big preggy tummies, complete with belly buttons sticking out, with piercings, and the expectant mums sporting hipster jogging bottoms and crop tops!  Neither is it flattering to see figure hugging Tshirts stretched over the bumps.

Yes, this grumpy old lady, is very bored today, hence two slightly similar questions!

FP we must have been separated at birth 'cos this is another of my pet hates too! What's wrong with a nice voluminous flowery smock for heaven's sake?  No, seriously I wouldn't wish those on anyone but there are plenty of lovely tops to cover & flatter preggy tums. Maybe they should look in one of those 3 way mirrors & see just how bizarre they look.  And please don't keep forcing them on us in TV ads - that one for Dove with the awful tune 'you gotta have skin...' puts me off my food.

You know we're going to be banished to the twilight home for the miserable old f*rts don't you FP?

But won't we have fun when we get there Robinia!  I don't mind going to a twilight home  if it's full of fun loving old f*rts - we'll show 'em how to live - rock on!

May I join you ladies? I hate to see those exposed bumps! I used to like my maternity dresses and trousers from Mothercare,oh those expanding waistbands:-))).
Please tell me this isn't true - you can get maternity thongs!!! ... runs screaming...
Can I come to the same retirement home please?

We should book our rooms now!  I reckon we would all have great fun in this retirement home!   Smudge will join us as well and several others I can think of!
Do you think they'll supply us with incontinence thongs?.....no...no...please nooooo.....

Robinia,  You have made me laugh so much that I am crying!!

Hello girls!

I'm already in the Home for the Bewildered so perhaps they'll let me out to visit you all if I behave!

FP, how come you're bored, you had plenty to do!!

Couldn't shunt over and make room for another one in the 'retired rockers' home, I'm joining you!!

I think this trend started with the Spice Girls, when they started producing the offspring and it has remained.

Unfortunately it is not just confined to the younger 'Mum to be'. A neighbour of 38+ has just had her little boy and dressed in the same manner throughout her pregnancy!

ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

nasty

it's not just a "grumpy old lady" thing, i think it provokes the same reaction from anyone with a sense of decency

I am so there for you FP have already posted my thoughts on graemer's question - but us oldies are the best in the world..

FP, just in case we get banned I wanted to say how much I've enjoyed being a 'grumpy' this weekend. (You can blame me for mentioning thongs in the first place).  Will think up some more for next weekend.....

Cetti, how about you? You always seem so quiet & peaceful but there must be something that winds you up. Come on - get it off your chest!

LOL Robinia,  you get thong shaped sanitary protection now, so why not thong Tena Lady?!
I'm with you on this FP!  I work in a hospital with a large maternity unit and it seems that girls/ women think that being pregnant gives them permission to display bodies which under any other circumstances should be under lock n key.  I have even see the top of pubic hair lines when elastic waisted trousers have been slung "fashionably" low.  Think I'll phone in sick tomorrow, my sensibilities have taken a bashing!  :)

Robinia - you naughty girl starting this all off!  But us old girls have earned the right to being naughty. Yes, it's been great fun!
I think pregnant people look great - I have no problem with them showing their stomach.
well i have to say that im only 24 and i really hate it when pregnant woman wear really short tops with this great big bump on show too.

I don't see anything particularly offensive in an exposed tummy, I must admit.  Whether that tummy is pregnant, fat or taught, it doesn't affect how I feel about it.   The current trend for hipsters and cut off tops will surely pass, and something new (and probably just as odd) will replace it.   I got pregnant at 33 and didn't expose my tummy during that 9 months (swimming pool excepted) but then, I didn't wear tummy showing tops pre pregnancy, or after.   I absolutely loved being pregnant tho, so I probably would have worn tummy revealing tops had I been the kind of person who wore them before hand.   I can understand why folk aren't too keen on a pregnant belly button on show I guess....mine really went a bit weird towards the last few weeks.

Thongs....the devils work.
