This week we had a beautiful little doco on oz TV in which Ian Smith (Harold Bishop in neighbours) revealed he was only told he was adopted when he was 54 and his adoptive mum was dying. He was absolutely devastated and felt his life had been a lie. Has anyone else been told so late in life or told their adoptive child that late in life? Luckily he found his birth mum who had no idea he was famous and now sadly she is dying of cancer. very very moving and thought provoking.

In A Pickle, I'm not in that situation exactly, although my cousin is. I'm just very moved by the whole journey that all parties undertake. In my cousin's case his adoptive mother (my aunt) was really distressed by his search for his birth mother, so much so that he keeps his relationship wth her a secret.
