going for laser eye surgery!! ANy tips?

Well.. I've done it.. I've gone and booked it and paid the deposit!

What can I expect.... any typical symptoms... whats the soreness like afterwards? (Like a hard poke in the eye.. or stinging??? what does it feel like?

Curious to know who here has had it - and what you experienced... not too gruesome please. I'm dead squeamish!!!!! and bricking myself about it!!!

I had mine done 9 years ago, it's totally painless, a little light pressure on the eyeball where they hold it still (pretty necessary), an odd burning smell when the laser is working which lasts about 20 secs per eye, when the anaesthetic (?) drops wear off my eyes were itchy and uncomfortable but no pain, after a night's sleep they felt completely normal but I could see!

Seriously a young friend of mine had his done, he looks great without his specs.HIS VERDICT: The best money he has ever spent, Don't worry Nosha it is worth it.

This is purely cosmetic eye surgery you're talking about.

I've had several sessions of laser eye surgery over the years because I've got Retinopathy. I have to have laser to seal the tiny veins at the back of the eye because they bleed into the vision, it doesn't improve my sight at all. In my case I have to have local aneasthetic injected in my brow & upper cheek.

My ex had it done with one of the original pioneers of Lasik and it was the best thing that she did.

Buy the best surgeon/technique that you can afford.

You may have a little vision focus loss for a few months atabout 100 to 120m but that corrects.

You may not get 20-20 but they can do a second shave if required, though that is rare.

You may still need reading glasses later in life

You shouldnt drive for a few days as your focal lengths have changed

For the ex it was seeing and reading the alarm in the middle of the night that was the mind blowing moment.

And you know that the first eye has worked before they go onto the second! The butterfly covers they put over your eyes are to allow the light to adjust and also to prevent you driving - early on they had folk going oustide, jumping into their cars and driving - and smmmmash with the focal distances having adjusted. An din the US, that's not good.

Was a bit worried how much discomfort would be in after the op.. but sounds minimal.
I have not met the surgeon yet - but am being sent an info pack with his name so I can google him and find out more info in meantime.
Am having it with Optical Express... Originally thought they were conveyor belt style.. but have had TWO recommendations so am taking the plunge on Good Friday!!!
Had to buy some cheapo sunglasses yesterday! and keep smiling to think that one day I will be walking around without glasses on!
No steaming up when cooing.. falling off in gym... getting splashed in rain!
