HELP - my 6yr old can't/won't poo!
12 Answers
The last time she went was on Saturday. I have done everything I can since, like giving her plenty of fruit & veg and juice etc. Even sugar in yoghurt yesterday like someone suggested but nothing has worked. She is now hardly eating, is unwell in herself and struggling to do normal things like ride a bike etc. She has just wanted to lie down all day and cries when she tries to go to the toilet. I spoke to the pharmacist this morning to see if she needed medical intervention and he said no not yet and gave her lactulose. She has had 3 spoonfuls and still nothing. Someone has said go to out of hours doc but she is terrified of what they may do. Should I wait and see if she goes by morning or go to docs now?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.my son is on movicol, which is a prescribed treatment, probably a bit more kick than lactulose, like BM says though you have to give it time to build up in her system. try not to make her lack of bowel movements a panicking/worrying issue as she will pick up on it and worry more.
make sure she eats and drinks plenty, keep taking the lactulose, keep her stressfree and hopefully nature will take its course. x

Hurray shes now managed to push a tiny bit out so hopefully the rest will follow soon. I could see it stuck there in her bum (nice!) After telling her firmly that if she didnt stop it coming out the doctor would be putting a tablet up her bum and getting it out this seemed to eventually work! She has never been like this before and eats fairly healthy but now we will be upping the fruit. Thanks for the answers, dont know what I'd do without this site, my kids cause me problems on a weekly basis it seems:)
Chocolate covered prunes I'm told I've good.... I find it hard to imagine getting a child to eat a chocolate covered prune. Watch and wait, if it doesn't improve (or it does but she is only passing hard stool) then she may need to go to GP and have something like movicol as caz mentioned. Ensure she is well hydrated with water.
