Who is right?

Last night my 16mth had a temp of 40 and was screaming the place down for a good 15 mins. We managed to get ibuprofen down him and strip him a bit then he went back to sleep. Today he has been out of sorts with bouts of crying but he is getting 2 molars at once as well so that doesnt help. While he was screaming I noticed his throat was bright red and he was poking his ears so I phoned what I thought was my out of hours doc. It was the number my surgery gave out on the answerphone but it turned out to be NHS direct. After ages of asking stupid questions the call ended and a nurse then called me right back. She said the temp had been dangerously high and needed urgent medical attention. I ended up taking him to walk in centre and they said it was just viral and nothing to worry about. So if he gets it again that high who do I believe?

hi tig.. I don't think either was "wrong". you need to get baby checked to make sure there are no underlying reasons for the symptoms you've seen.

Dear oh dear...........NHS Direct is a total waste of time and money..........surely it will have to go.

Babies, kids, call them what you like, get these are temperatures and with the treatment that you gave, soon recover.

Err on the side of caution. Screw those people. Last I heard virus's don't turn your throat red and make your ears itch. Get a white cell count if you go back down there.

Cowtipper....I have a certain amount of sympathy for your comments as in the UK our Health System is based on GP or non-specialist care whereas the system in the USA is hospital based and I must say that I prefer your system, although both have their bad points

At the moment in the UK more money is being given to the GP;s which in my opinion is completely the wrong way, money should be based on a hospital or central Health service.
