Chickenpox?

My Mum has had chicken pox three times and apparently when I was young I had it three times too. All the outbreaks were very mild and all were diagnosed by a doctor.

My daughter felt unwell on Tuesday, achey, tired and hot, felt a bit better on Wednesday. She had some spots come up on Thursday and then more on Friday and over the course of the day more came up. Small red itchy raised spots that looked like blisters. I would say between twenty and thirty on her legs, neck, torso and arms.

This will be the third time she has had spots like this. The first time she was about three and the doc said chicken pox then again a few years back (Didn't take her to the docs that time). Could this be chicken pox again? Could she have had it three times like me and Mum?

I always thought, that if you caught, Chickenpox, Measles, Mumps, etc etc that you built up an immunity to protect against catching it again. Obviously, this can't be the case.

I had Measles very bad as a child but caught it again when I was 25. (:0/

Only just seen sqad's last remark so this is all a bit late.
Sqad- no problem - not the first time a surgeon has tried to disagree with me!

Icemaiden, sorry - got diverted by shingles - but as has been said diagnosis is difficult, and can only be made by series of blood tests or growing the chickenpox virus from the blister fluid. One way of telling whether the rash is chickenpox or not is the presence of spots in the scalp, which other childhood rashes tend not to have.
In any case I hope your daughter recovers quickly.

Sir Alec - shingles is indeed a nasty and debilitating condition, but have you been back to your GP, as there are treatments that might help?

Hi ice, my toddler has just had chickenpox and I used this cream from the chemist/supermarket called Vira Soothe. It's in a blue box and is about £5 (more from Boots) It was brilliant stuff, much nicer than calamine lotion, and dried up the spots very quickly. I also gave him piriton and paracetamol etc if he needed it. Hope your daughter is well soon.
