petrol pumps
Does anybody know why Petrol pumps in the UK have the small device removed which enables you to not have to permanently squeeze the trigger whilst filling? I was in Europe driving recently and this fantastic little device made filling up much less tiresome. I noticed that the triggers on UK pumps are identical to European pumps except that the small metal pin that the catch rests on has been removed.

I know that the nozzle should be in the tank filler neck but there are plenty people out there who can create such a scene believe me! Also there's a chance of it sticking or people not stopping it early enough. In general I've found safety issues more relaxed abroad right down to the way people cross the road (challenging the traffic on crossings!) I know which system I prefer.
At the moment I am filling my truck at Sainsbury or Tesco as it is cheaper than filling up on my bunker card. As I am putting in around 200 litres at a time, I have a bent paperclip hanging in the cab ready to use on the pump nozzle. All you have to do is slide it in the holes and the clip will work. It is amazing how many people have come up to me and asked how I can walk away from the pump and it still works.
