Lets be clear, every, single, cigarette has an adverse effect on your health, full stop. If you are asthmatic, then that effect will be increased. Everyone knows someone who smoked 60 a day and lived to a 100, or similar, these are a miniscule minority compared to the millions who do die prematurely, every single day, world wide, as a rresult of smoking related illness. Plus, remember, there are a lot worse things than death! Heart disease, bronchitus, lung cancer etc etc, may well not kill you for years, but if you call sitting in a chair all day gasping for breath out of an oxygen mask unable to speak or stand up being alive, please, have another fag! As you get older, the cumulitve effects of the poisons that you are lodging in your body from cigarette smoke will always have some kind of unpleasant health effect, even if you only smoke one aday, there is no escape. The good news is that by giving up the risks are reduced back almost to non smoker levels very quickly. A heart specialist at the hospital I work in recently told me that there is no greater health advice, be it losing weight, getting more exercise, cut down on alcahol, nothing, than the simple message, stop smoking.
