MM Links Solutions June 2011 [Week 1]

Apologies for this slight delay ~ we've had unexpected guests!
I must confess that I am not much of a gambler ~ unless I am backing my own skills in a game of cards ~ but when “King Cliffyg” listed a handful of hopefuls for the Epsom Derby, my eye was caught immediately by “Pour Moi”. As the race was midstream and Pour Moi was trailing right at the back of the field (even behind the Queen’s horse) I was relieved that I hadn’t placed a bet. Imagine my surprise when this very horse was declared the winner! King Cliffyg is to be listened to when declaring his predictions and, as far as MM Links are concerned, he chose the following link words:
DONKEY Derby
Flat TYRE (or TIRE!)
Horse SHOE
RELAY Race

It took to Entrant (lucky) #7 in the form of Dinkypuzzled to pick up the first TWO POINTS for DONKEY DERBY. A few entrants on and centrino successfully transferred the baton in the RELAY RACE and TWO more POINTS were shed. With no further bonus points to distribute until 09.14, the well-named jobjockey claimed a FLAT TYRE as Entrant #20. Slim pickings indeed!
Once the time reached 10 o’clock, only single points were on offer and these were earned by wickedtogue &ladyalex (for Donkey Derby), Handbaglady & boxtops (for Relay Race) and Mr Ont-ice (for Flat Tire!). With the time reading 4 o’clock in the afternoon and having seen 35 entrants come and go, in came mirandasmum with her lucky HORSE SHOE to demand TWO POINTS for the last link!

With only eight more contestants to step up to the mark, an astonishing FIVE of these liked the look of Donkey Derby. They were paulineward, ulysses100, cupid04, x-ray & Magyar and each will get a toehold on the Score Board. Before then, I would like to nominate mirandasmum as HOT SHOT OF THE WEEK, she being the only person to suggest the fourth and final Link Word.
*** Let trumpets sound and canons roar ***
*** The peasants cheer and shout “Encore” ***
The League Table after this first week is as follows:
TWO POINTS: centrino, Dinkypuzzled, jobjockey & mirandasmum
ONE POINT: boxtops, cupid04, Handbaglady, ladyalex, Magyar, Mr Ont-ice, paulineward, ulysses100, wickedtongue & x-ray
This has been a relatively slow start to the month of June, but that is often the case and I’m sure that things will pick up.
Until we meet up again: HAPPY LINKING!
