Anyone tried Slim Fast?
27 Answers
I am starting it today, having a shake for breakfast, lunch and having a healthy tea.
Has anybody tried it? I know you can have either 2 shakes and a healthy 600 calorie meal but what about the Slim fast snacks you can buy?
If you've done it, was the weight loss good? Did you feel ok? Which plan did you opt for? The shakes or the meal bars?
Thanks

I don't think I can do that. It also takes me a long time to lose weight for some reason. I just seem to be stuck around the same stone mark.
I'm rubbish at just healthy eating, I know I wouldn't stick to that. My mum lost loads last year on Cambridge diet as she found it easier not eating at all (no temptation to eat then).
I've got a holiday at the end of September and would love to lose 2 stone.

You'll lose weight no matter what you eat, providing you're consuming fewer calories than you burn. Obviously, the more balance eating is going to make you feel better and your body healthy, too, though. I tried all the gimmicky diets: Atkins, Slim Fast, etc. and I couldn't stick to any of them- a drink for a meal for a chubster like I was wasn't going to cut it for me. :) I lost 5 and a half stone in the end, but that was through eating no more than 1200 calories per day and using an exercise DVD. If you keep your meals varied, you're more likely to see it through. Good luck. :)
low carb diets are good if you need a short term fast weight loss, if you cannot learn to eat healthily then chances are when you are fed up with slimfast the weight will pack on again.
for more long term options you should consider something that tries to encourage healthy eating without missing out on treats like weightwatchers

cazz, I just don't think I'd lose enough in time for my holiday. I am huge compared to my sis and brother's gf. I don't want to regret not trying my best to lose weight.
I've done slimming world easy option (really stuck to it), and I just wasn't losing weight so not got faith in those sort of diets to be honest.

Tried it years & years ago. Probably the same now though. Had to keep trying to convince myself it had satisfied me when my natural reaction was more to ask where the next coure was. Had to sip the shake slowly to stick with it as long as I did. But I gave up on these 'quick fix solutions' some time back.
the whole point of slimming world is you lose weight gradually (extra easy is slower than using red and green days for a lot of people though) ...if you lose weight too fast you lose lean tissue as well as fat 2 stone in a couple of months is possible but usually if you are obese rather than overweight as the initial loss is a whole lot quicker. if you haven't got so much to lose then be realistic and that will probably mean a loss of around 10 lbs to a stone before your holiday. combine it with some toning exercise and you could look the two stone slimmer though...
Thank you rowan. I am 5 foot exactly and around 9 stone 12, my weight is mostly around my middle and I'm always conscious that I look pregnant - infact my little girl said the other week "Mummy, are you sure there's not a baby in your tummy?" and I said no and she said (whilst prodding it), "There could be, it's quite big". I am overweight.
Need to have a good think about what I'm going to do. When I did the red and green days, the green day made me feel so bloated and vile, not keen on doing slimming world again. My mother in law does the easy plan and loves it.

Cereal for breakfast, sandwich and salad for lunch and usually a big meal in the evening; I used to save up a lot of my calories for then, as that's when I used to "lose it". The first week is the worst- it was just psychological for me, really, having to stop mysel eating something I fancied, but it's much easier the more you get into it. The thing that kept me motivated the most, though, was a little book I wrote my measurements in once a week. I've still got it, so I can look back over it. :)
I decided to give a low carb diet a go as I was eating way too much sugary, starchy rubbish. I wanted to free myself of that. I started in early Feb,and got to my goal, having lost 21 lbs by the latter part of May.
I gave up bread, pasta, white rice, sugar in most forms, and most caffeine. I have eggs and bacon at least 4 mornings, maybe porridge or last nights left overs the other 3 days. I have salads of either deli meats,or chicken- combined with cheese, cherry tomatoes and good quality mayo for lunch....followed by berries and natural yogurt. Dinner is something like a fat homemade burger with cheesy leeks,or 2 grilled chicken legs-skin included-with lots of veggies, or slow cooked belly of pork with grilled peppers, and salad. If I want-I can have some dark chocolate,or berries and cream. I'm not starving, and I'm rarely hungry. Also...I never count calories.....that's not the way to live if you like food.
A lot of recent scientific studies are showing that a lot of our modern illnesses are due to eating a high carb diet-including diabetes. Places like India are having a diabetes epidemic because they are adopting a Western style of eating.
With something like Slim fast-you will eventually have to go back to normal eating....and the weight will all come back.
