Hello - can anyone advise me please:-
Today I picked up my repeat prescription for Climagest HRT and when I got home discovered that they have given me Climaval instead.
Looking at the two packs - the Climagest is:
16 tablets containing 2mg oestradiol valerate USP, followed by 12 tablets containing 2mg oestradiol valerate USP and 1mg norethisterone.
The Climaval is: 28 tablets, all containing 2mg oestradiol valerate USP.
Is the norethisterone important?
Is this change of tablet likely to have any side effects - should I just take the Climaval or should I go back to the chemist and ask for the Climagest that has been prescribed?

Obviously I know nothing about HRT medicines but I would have thought the pharmacist would have brought this to your attention unless the drugs are equivalent. I would go back and ask just to be sure.
If it impossible to answer whether you will have any side effects from taking Climaval. The norethisterone part of HRT is prescribed for women who have not had a hysterectomy and is useful in helping to control irregular bleeding.
I would suggest that you return the Climaval to the pharmacy and ask them to correctly dispense the Climagest tablets.

Many thanks for your replies - as I haven't had a hysterectomy (yet!) I will ring tomorrow just to be sure.
Thanks again.
Much the same thing as both contain female hormones but Climagest as squsal says contains a progesterone.

As you are pre menopausal and uterus intact then in my opinion the Climagest is the one for you.

Is the norethisterone important?...certainly is in your case and women similar.

Thanks Sqad - Scotman and Squsalminney also thought that I should return them.
I rang the chemist today and will be exchanging them for the HRT I was originally prescribed.
It was a bit worrying however that the dispensing label that the chemist stuck on the Climaval actually says Climagest and had the tick in the box to say that it had been checked!
