bruised lips....
33 Answers
My daft daughter apparently discovered yesterday that it was great fun to suck her lips right into a Sherbet fountain tube and did it many times before my husband noticed and stopped her. Last night I noticed her lips were swollen and darker than normal and this morning she looks like she' been smacked in the mouth with purple bruising on her lips.
Given that school starts the day after tomorrow is there anything we can do to make it fade fast? She feel very embarresed by it now so hopefully has learned her lesson although I wouldn't put it past her sister to try and see if it works for her!

I asked this because I've got a nine year old girl who is already nervous about going bank to school, sitting in floods of tears because she thinks everybody is going to laugh at her. I came on here to get helpful advice or at least be able to give her some reassurance that it would fade qiuckly. In that respect, I didn't find Sqad's answer particularly helpful and I don't have the energy to deal with his hurt ego this morning. However, to keep the peace - thank you for replying sqad.
Ps. If I don't answer now, it's a shopping trip not a flounce : )

At best, there is no scientific evidence that Arnica cream has any effect on the resolution of bruising and at worst, if applied to mucous membranes e.g lips) can cause intense irritation and possible swelling with allergic manifestations.
If absorbed from the lips can cause all sorts of gastro intestinal and systemic problems
Don't use it on the lips.......it may be dangerous.

Oh drat, just back from the shops clutching my arnica cream and read Sqad's last answer. Luckily I haven't put any on my daughter yet . This is going to be one these weeks when I really should just stay in bed
Thanks Sqad - that was genuinely helpful information; and thank you to all the other that offered advice too.
